The choice of clay as my primary medium seems to come from play in mud, sand and water in the ponds of the undeveloped land that surrounded my childhood home outside of New York City. After graduating from Oberlin College with a political science major, I lived in New York City for a few years and earned a master's degree in library science from Columbia University. Coinciding with the birth of my first child, I began to work with clay, the material I longed to use when I was a child. After satisfying my initial desire to work on the potter's wheel, I enrolled in community college art classes and then earned a degree from the University of Maryland in studio art with a focus on sculpture. For more than twenty years I taught clay classes in my DC area studio while sculpting and exhibiting my work. In 2004 I relocated to the small college town of Yellow Springs Ohio. My figurative sculptures, which reflect the fascination with the natural world formed in my childhood, are shown in galleries in the DC area and in the Midwest.
